Charity of the Month | Keeping Abreast

This month we recognise Keeping Abreast, a local breast cancer reconstructive support charity. Keeping Abreast offers support to all those facing or considering breast reconstruction following a breast cancer diagnosis or the discovery of a hereditary cancer gene.

About Keeping Abreast

Keeping Abreast was founded in 2007 by Anna Beckingham and Beverley Birritteri two Norwich-based patients and Breast Reconstruction nurse specialist, Ruth Harcourt. The trio decided to start Keeping Abreast after recognising a need for those, both newly diagnosed with breast cancer and facing the possibility of a mastectomy, and breast reconstruction in the future, to meet and talk to others going through or who have been through similar experiences.

The charity has a network of registered volunteers across the country, who are happy to share their own real-life experiences of breast reconstruction to help others facing the same decision.

Keeping Abreast offers regular face-to-face Support Groups for in-person support where you can bring your friends, family or significant other too. Alongside this, the charity offers support via telephone calls, emails, WhatsApp groups and a closed Facebook community, Keeping Abreast Online Support Group UK.

How can you help?

As a charity, Keeping Abreast is always looking for ways to fundraise and support women post-operatively and through their recovery. Find out more and how to donate here.

Why did we choose to support Keeping Abreast this May?

Keeping Abreast is a fantastic charity supporting women and families affected by breast cancer in Norfolk and the UK. We wanted to show our support for Keeping Abreast who offer vital advice and support for those going through or who have gone through breast reconstruction surgery.
